Guide students through their plans, teaching useful skills along the way
Check in between sessions to remind and encourage them
Communicate with parents or caregivers through messages or live meetings as needed
Assist in setting up organization systems, like designated spots for everyday belongings, to make staying organized easier
Help families develop strategies and changes at home to support their child's needs
Teach students how to speak up for themselves with teachers and school staff
What to expect during a coaching session:
The first session is all about getting to know each other, building trust, and understanding the student’s challenges. After that, sessions will be tailored to each student’s needs and learning style to provide helpful support.
Possible topics include planning, organizing, starting tasks, staying focused, managing emotions, handling impulses, remembering information, communicating effectively, advocating for oneself, taking care of personal needs, and building friendships.
We focus on changing how students think about motivation, encouraging a growth mindset, and helping them feel confident.
Students will leave sessions feeling understood and capable of making positive changes.
A typical pattern is three sessions with the student, followed by one session that includes family members. Family sessions aim to improve communication, help parents understand their child’s needs, set up helpful home accommodations, and foster better relationships within the family.
The length of coaching varies for each person, from about 6 weeks to a year. The goal is for the student to learn skills, develop tools and supports, and eventually be able to manage on their own.
A coaching package includes:
A 45-minute online session each week
Follow-up messages or emails between meetings if needed
Finding helpful resources and tools suited to the student
Creating personalized tools and templates to support the student’s organization and planning
